Patients keep check on blood pressure, weight and height in surgery pod

Porth Farm Surgery Pod

Porth Farm Surgery used new equipment to develop a Surgery Health Pod for patients just off the waiting area..

A curtain across the area offers privacy to enable patients to measure their own height, weight and blood pressure before their GP or nurse appointment.

The checks mean more time with the doctor for discussion and treatment of their problem.

The Surgery Health Pod can be accessed at any time during practice opening hours without the need to make an appointment.

Practice manager Karen Shepperd said:  “The Surgery Health Pod isn’t there to replace visits to your doctor but it is a convenient and efficient way to help patients and doctors better look after their health.

“A visit to the doctor can make patients feel nervous and anxious but using the Surgery Health Pod is a chance to measure their blood pressure while they are undisturbed and relaxed.”

Patient David Middle, 71, from Penygraig, who suffers from asthma, said: “I can come into the surgery at any time to monitor my blood pressure.

“The blood pressure machine is simple to use with clear instructions but the receptionists will help demonstrate the use if the patient prefers.

“The BP result is printed out and it is updated on my medical records immediately. Whilst I am here I also weigh myself as I am trying to lose weight.”

Using the Surgery Health Pod helps your doctor help you.
